Check the URL first!
Before you submit, check the url to make sure it works. Most web servers use case-sensitive filenames, meaning if your filename is called myscript.zip don't put MyScript.zip in the URL. Downloads which require the user to login or create an account first is not acceptable.
Avoid using common file names.
Common file names such as file.zip, mirc.zip, script.zip, mp3.zip, and whois.mrc are likely being used by other files. I suggest putting the script name in the filename, such as JoeScript.zip for example if the script's name was Joe Script.
Choosing a web host.
Many people choose to put their files on free web hosts, such as Geocities and Tripod. This is usually fine, but can lead to some problems, including: direct links not being allowed, bandwidth limits, accounts disappearing if you don't log in consistently, and slow downloads. Freewebs.com for instance often has painfully slow downloads.
Your ISP probably offers you plenty of web space already that will often be more reliable than some free alternatives. Did you know that web hosting prices have gone down sharply lately? There are now great deals for only a few US Dollars a month. I suggest looking in the advertising section at WebHostingTalk for such deals.
Scan your files for viruses.
Many commonly used IRC utilities that authors include with their scripts are infected with viruses and trojans. Scan your files before you put them on the Internet.
